Following this evenings press conference from the UK government, we await guidance and clarification from the FA, but fully expect that all grassroots football will be affected by these latest restrictions.
Should the ESFL be subject to a four week suspension (without any further national restriction on grassroots football), we hope that the league will be able to continue in its current format. At present 16 teams will qualify. This will be the winner of each group and the best 6 runners up.
We have decided to take the extra step and extend the groups until the end of March allowing teams enough time to complete their fixtures.
The league was created to boost moral, increase fitness and to improve the wellbeing of Emergency Service Workers in the UK. The response from across the UK has been overwhelming and the league has come so far in such a little time. We would like to thank all those involved for their support and commitment throughout these challenging times.
